Duane Holmes is a professional footballer who began his journey at Altofts Juniors, coached by our very own ‘Mr Altofts’ – Andrew Newton. Born in the USA but raised locally, Duane started playing football with Altofts at a young age before joining the Huddersfield Town academy at just 9 years old.
He made his professional debut for Huddersfield in 2013 and went on to enjoy a successful career across the English Football League. He had key spells at Scunthorpe United, Derby County, Preston North End, and returned to Huddersfield for a second stint before moving to the MLS in 2025 to play for Houston Dynamo.
Duane has also represented the United States Men’s National Team, making his senior international debut in 2019.
His journey from Altofts Juniors to international football is a brilliant example of how local grassroots football can lead to big opportunities.
